Some shady drifters specialize in the art of the gun, basking in the crack of gunfire and the acrid smell of black powder.
The desperado loses access to one discipline of choice from the normal shady drifter discipline list. In exchange, she gains the Tempest Gale discipline.
This ability alters Battle Artes.
At 1st level, a desperado gains one of the following firearms of her choice: rifle, double-barreled shotgun, or revolver. Her starting weapon is battered, and only she knows how to use it properly. All other creatures treat her gun as if it had the broken condition.
A desperado makes her mark upon the world with daring deeds. In game terms, grit is a fluctuating measure of a gunslinger’s ability to perform amazing actions in combat. She starts each day with a number of grit points equal to half her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). Her grit goes up or down throughout the day, but cannot go higher than 1+Cha modifier (minimum 1). A desperado spends grit to accomplish deeds and activate certain Battle Artes (see below). She regains them through the following means.
Critical Hit with a Firearm: Each time the desperado confirms a critical hit with a firearm attack while in the heat of combat, she regains 1 grit point. Confirming a critical hit on a helpless or unaware creature or on a creature that has fewer Hit Dice than half the desperado's character level does not restore grit.
Killing Blow with a Firearm: When the desperado reduces a creature to 0 or fewer hit points with a firearm attack while in the heat of combat, she regains 1 grit point. Destroying an unattended object, reducing a helpless or unaware creature to 0 or fewer hit points, or reducing a creature that has fewer Hit Dice than half the desperado's character level to 0 or fewer hit points does not restore any grit.
This ability replaces drifter's finesse.
A desperado may expend 1 grit point to activate any Boost Battle Arte she knows, even if she does not have it readied. This does not consume any of the shady drifter's maneuver pool.
This ability replaces familiar.
Starting at 2nd level, on any turn where the desperado activates a Boost Battle Arte, she gains a +1 competence bonus to attack rolls with firearms until the start of her next turn. This bonus increases by 1 at 4th level and every 2 levels thereafter.
This ability replaces channeled artes.
At 4th level, the desperado gains a limited selection of deeds as a gunslinger would. She learns any two deeds available to a gunslinger of a level less than or equal to her shady drifter level - 3. If the deed would have an effect based on her Wisdom modifier, she uses her Charisma modifier instead, and she uses her shady drifter level - 3 in place of gunslinger level.
At 8th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, she learns two additional deeds, following the rules above.
This ability replaces whisper on the wind.
